Young Poets Network Poetry Challenge: Our Whole Lives, We Are Protest
Closing Date – Mon 9 May 2022
Entry Fee – Free
The Poetry Society’s Young Poets Network invites writers aged 25 and younger worldwide to protest through poetry, inspired by one of the first great protests in UK history: the Great Rising of 1381. The revolt saw people from all backgrounds – from craftsmen to priests, rise up against rising taxes and unfair treatment from landlords.
Entrants are invited to use one of these three prompts:
1) Write a poem about a march or demonstration that you have attended, or a protest from history, in any part of the world.
2) Write a poem about the body as a site of resistance.
3) Write a letter to an oppressive idea or structure that you wish to resist.
Further guidance on these prompts can be found on the competition website.
