Terms and Conditions for the Use of ABOT and Other Similar AI Assistants.

  1. Introduction
    These terms and conditions (“Terms”) govern the use of ABOT, an artificial intelligence tool designed to aid learning in English and English literature, by authorised users (“Users”) in connection with the educational services provided by English Literature Sri Lanka (“ELSL”).
  2. Access to ABOT
    Access to ABOT is restricted to authorised users only. Users must provide accurate and complete information during the registration process and must keep their login credentials confidential. Any unauthorised access to ABOT is strictly prohibited.
  3. Accuracy of Information
    ABOT has been designed to provide accurate and reliable information. However, users acknowledge that ABOT is an artificial intelligence tool and that errors or inaccuracies may occur. ELSL does not warrant or guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any information provided by ABOT.
  4. Compliance with ELSL Policies
    Users must comply with all applicable ELSL policies and guidelines when using ABOT. ELSL reserves the right to suspend or terminate access to ABOT for any user who violates these terms or any ELSL policy or guideline.
  5. Responsibility for Learning
    Users are responsible for engaging with the material and actively participating in the learning process. ABOT is a tool designed to aid learning and does not replace the need for independent study and academic research.
  6. Use Restrictions
    Users may only use ABOT for educational purposes related to English and English literature. Any other use, including but not limited to using ABOT for commercial purposes, is strictly prohibited. Users may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or transfer any information obtained through ABOT without ELSL’s prior written consent.
  7. Use Limitation
    Users are strictly prohibited to employ ABOT for the purpose of line-by-line annotation of entire literary works.
  8. Consequences of Misuse
    Any misuse or exploitation of ABOT, including but not limited to using ABOT for non-educational purposes or violating any use restriction in these Terms, may result in the immediate suspension or termination of access to ABOT, without notice or liability to ELSL.
  9. Data Privacy
    ELSL collects and processes certain personal data from Users in connection with the use of ABOT. Such data is subject to ELSL’s privacy policy, which is incorporated by reference into these Terms.
  10. Conduct Guidelines
    All conversations with the ABOT are recorded for the purpose of analysis by teachers. Users must not to share sensitive or private information during interactions, and refrain from using any offensive or inappropriate language.
  11. No Plagiarism
    Users are responsible for ensuring that their work is original and properly cited. ABOT is a tool designed to aid learning and does not guarantee the absence of plagiarism or academic dishonesty.
  12. Intellectual Property
    All intellectual property rights in ABOT, including any improvements or modifications, belong to ELSL or its licensors. Users may not use any ELSL trademarks or logos without ELSL’s prior written consent.
  13. Liability
    ELSL and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, agents, and licensors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from or in connection with the use of ABOT, even if ELSL has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
  14. Access Restrictions
    ABOT is a tool provided by ELSL for students to gain extra knowledge. Users may not use ABOT to simplify their education-related activities or to avoid independent study and academic research.
  15. Use of ABOT and Other AI Assistance
    It is strictly prohibited to use ABOT or any other type of AI assistance to substitute or enhance a student’s memory and creativity during any tests or assignments that assess these skills. Any violation of this rule shall constitute a breach of these Terms and may result in immediate disqualification from the class or course before it is completed, as well as forfeiture of any fees or credits associated with the course. Moreover, the student will not receive any certificates for the course, and may be subject to further disciplinary action as determined by ELSL. Additionally, ELSL reserves the right to restrict the student’s access to ABOT or any other AI assistance provided by ELSL as a consequence of such violation.
  16. Governing Law
    These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which ELSL is based, without giving effect to any principles of conflicts of law. Any legal action or proceeding arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the courts located in the jurisdiction in which ELSL is based.
  17. Entire Agreement
    These Terms constitute the entire agreement between Users and ELSL with respect to the use of ABOT and supersede all prior or contemporaneous communications and proposals, whether oral or written, between the parties.
  18. Severability
    If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, such provision shall be struck and the remaining provisions shall be enforced to the fullest extent possible.
  19. Amendments
    ELSL may amend these Terms at any time by posting the amended Terms on its website or notifying Users by email or other means. Users’ continued use of ABOT following any such amendment shall constitute acceptance of the amended Terms.
  20. Termination of Access
    ELSL reserves the right to suspend or terminate access to ABOT at any time, for any reason, without notice or liability to Users.
  21. Waiver
    ELSL’s failure to enforce any right or provision in these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision unless acknowledged and agreed to by ELSL in writing.

By accessing and using ABOT, Users acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms.
